For people hoping to remove a few years from their face, anti wrinkle injections are becoming increasingly popular. Each type of injection will effectively remove wrinkles, but uses different formulas and methods. These formulas and methods include using toxins to freeze nerves in the face and “filling in” wrinkles with gels and chemical fillers. There is no miracle chemical that can remove wrinkles permanently from your face, but with all the available injections, you don’t have to keep the wrinkles either.
Botox is the most recognizable name in anti wrinkle injections. Botox is a chemical toxin derived from bacteria and essentially paralyzes the tiny nerves in your face, wiping away the wrinkles. Botox is founds to best work on crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles and temple wrinkles. It is not as effective on frown lines. Botox does not always yield immediate results, and the affects usually begin 2 – 3 days after the injection. Each Botox injection lasts 3 – 4 months.
Restylane anti wrinkle injections are hyaluronic acid wrinkle fillers. While it was originally created for use in lip augmentation, Restylane is now more frequently used as a wrinkle remover. Restylane removes crow’s feet, laugh lines, frown lines and filling in the hollows under the eye. Restylane is injected under wrinkles and lines in the face. Recovery time following the injection is 2 – 3 days. Unlike Botox, Restylane lasts 6 – 12 months.
Juvederm is one of the newest injectable wrinkle fillers on the market, and is a gel. The effects of Juvederm are nearly identical to those of Restylane, removing crow’s feet, laugh lines, frown lines, under eye hollows. It is often used in lip augmentation. Juvederm is also used to fill in scars on the face. Juvederm’s edge in the market is gained by its popularity with physicians. Juvederm is considered easier for the doctor to use and a more pleasant experience for the patient. Juvederm injections last 6 – 9 months.
There are very few major side affects associated with anti wrinkle injections. Most complains reported are temporary redness, pain during injection, and swelling and bruising at the injection site. Users with allergies are advised not to use anti wrinkle fillers and both Restylane and Juvederm’s main component is derived from a substance found in animal muscles. A more serious side affect o use is an immune system reaction that results in granulomas, or facial lumps, that are difficult to treat. Anti wrinkle fillers should not be used by people with a history of anaphylaxis.
